Happy Thanksgiving to everyone celebrating the holiday today! This article will be short and to the point, as I just want to share with everyone what I am thankful for in regards to my career as an IT professional this year.
What I am most thankful for is that I am now part of an organization where I am challenged and at the same time encouraged. I have projects that require me to stretch myself outside of my comfort zone in good ways. I have received a great deal of training and even more is still accessible to me. I have had to develop new skill sets and change my perception of how certain aspects of the IT industry should work. I have been asked to provide input to the managers and executives above me, and when I have offered that input to those in positions above me have been very receptive.
If you want to be happy with your work it has to be engaging work. I am very thankful that my current position requires my full attention and dedication. The one thing that I do not want to have happen in my career is for my role to one day turn into that of being an button pusher. I am confident that my current position will not degrade into that sort of role.
Challenged, encouraged, and appreciated. What more can I ask for from my work?
Enjoy your holiday!
